The origins of a low self esteem can often be found way back in childhood. When children are subjected to a constant tirade of criticism from teachers, parents, siblings and peers their self confidence is eroded and they succumb to the idea that they can never achieve success in anything that they do. That is not to say some healthy, constructive criticism is not a good thing. As in all aspects of life balance is all. But when that criticism is unrelenting, and coming from someone who is supposed to love them, the damage can be beyond measure.
